SILVER SPRING, Md.—In a colorful night of worship and celebration, eleven language groups shared music and a multicultural dinner at Global Mission Church in Silver Spring, Md., on Mar. 16.
Held on Palm Sunday each year, this was the sixth annual music celebration for ethnic churches across Maryland and Delaware. With 110 language churches, there are at least 16 different language groups represented in the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware, shared Rolando Castro, BCM/D missionary for church planting and language churches.
“We currently have ministry among Korean, Hispanic, Chinese, Vietnamese, Haitian, Ethiopian, Filipino, Liberian, Nepalese, Arabic, Asian Indian, Burmese, Kenyan, Portuguese and Russian, as well as the American and Korean deaf groups,” he said. "Our vision is to facilitate healthy churches, through the planting and strengthening of congregations, among as many language groups in our area as God gives us opportunity."
He said the music celebrations give churches opportunities to get together and share who they are and to teach about their particular culture and forms of worship.
