New Hope Community Church partnered with several organizations to host a sports camp at the Curtis Bay Recreation Center. Over 114 children came to the camp, 23 people made professions of faith and three young adults decided to be summer missionaries.

As I write this, the world has just learned of the death of Michael Jackson. Of course it is a vivid reminder of the brevity and fragility of life. Of all his songs the one I have always liked is “The Man In The Mirror.” As I sat through this year’s Southern Baptist Convention in Louisville, Ky., I kept thinking that, yes, we may need a Great Commission Resurgence (GRC). Yes, we may need to rethink some of our SBC infrastructure. But more than that, we need an old fashioned mega-dose of obedience.

Take time for sabbath rest

July 2009

We need a daily time to rest. There needs to be some point in every day when we call time out and rest our minds and our spirits and our bodies. We need a day each week for sabbath rest. For those of us who are preachers and pastors, Sundays are not days of rest. We must have another day of the week for rest, focus, and spiritual development.

Teens gather to share their talent for God

On July 23-25, 2009, Lamplights Artists will host RENAISSANCE 516: The Performing and Visual Arts Conference for Students in grades 7-12 at First Church, Laurel, Md. A shortened version of Lamplight Artist’s previous Youth Performing Arts Camps (YPAC), this year’s RENAISSANCE 516 conference features learning tracks in film (scene development), theater (improv/storytelling), orchestra, vocal, praise band, dance/creative movement, photography, and web design/new media.
